THE BIRTHPLACE OF SOUTHERN ROCK
Jacksonville, FL has often been referred to
as the birthplace of Southern Rock, Many have walked the Skynyrd
walk and many have succeeded. Right now, the next chapter in
South Rock has just begun. It's name? Sam Hill . I've known they boyz for about a year now, and they are a number of session
musicians who originally threw in under the name of Steele. One
manager later... Think Zanz can't dance, lol
Bringing it Back Home is released.
I've known a number of
track from the album and have heard them in various stages, and
now the finished product. The boys RAWK and are positioned well
for a shot at the gold. BIBH is 8 tracks of unleashed Southern
In Yer Face Rock. Fact is there are nine tracks on the CD but
two come together (Best of Me Reprise and Best of Me) as
one song. Reprise is a great piano walkup by Andy Orth, formerly
of Molly Hatchet. Dusty Barber kinda challenged us to play the
full version, and I told him that we play the full version of
Inna Gadda Velveeta! (It's a cheesy song) Challenge
accepted! So we play it,
and the strength of this track has changed and become a monster
in a year. Great vocals from Mike "Ray Jett" Murray and a
blistering guitar solo from Dusty. Better Man track one is a
favorite "Yessir and no Ma'am that's who we are, be proud
you're a Southern Man, my Son"! Rock on the slide brought to ya by
Duane Johnson - you know him from Shantytown! Come on, do I gotta
spell it out!?
In the Water is a kick ass song most of us
really understand around spring... when the place floods with pretty women!
What .. something in the water? Or was that boot in the butt from Eric's
Mason's
drum kit?
Then you got my favorite - Preacher Man. This establishes the bi
polar man whose intentions are the best, but the gun is on his hip and word is
on his lip. He is out saving souls, but will he meet adversaries, flesh bound
devils? You'll have to listen to find out!
Bringing it Back Home is an outstanding sophomore album from Sam Hill.
Getcha some!
